Aditya-L1, India’s first solar observatory.

Aditya-L1 was launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on September 2, 2023

The Sun continuously streams electrically charged particles — a stream known as the Solar wind.

L1 stands for the first Lagrangian point — there are five such points, L1 to L5.

L1 is the  spot between Earth and the Sun, where the gravitational force exerted on a spacecraft by the two celestial bodies, and the centrifugal force cancel each other.

The main objectives of Aditya-L1 are: To observe the dynamics of the Sun's chromosphere and corona

To study chromospheric and coronal heating

to study space weather, and the origin, composition and dynamics of solar wind
